The 5 Best Event Management Plugins For WordPress

Each event is setup as a post and is nicely formatted to create an appealing look. You can change the design of events to suit your current theme and if indeed you are going all out for events you might want to choose a flexible theme.

The personal licence will suite most organisations and provide the majority of the features to get you going. If however you run a lot of events and have plans to develop them further then it is worth going for the business licence. In the scheme of taking payments, promoting your event and all the other features you get you will save yourself time and be able to generate more income using this type of system.

The initial setup takes time and so use the documentation which is good and provides steps to get you through all the options. Once set-up though running the system is easy.

2. WP Events

Events Manager is a simple to use event management plugin with the same features as Event Expresso. The difference is mostly in the extra integrations that you might or might not need e.g. Groupon, Social and Infusionsoft. At the time of writing this, out of all the event management plugins reviewed here, Event Manager was BuddyPress and multisite enabled but Event Expresso (EE) was not, although on EE’s forums it says it is in development.

One of the many benefits both Event Expresso and Event Manager provide is the use of shortcodes. The event shortcodes can help you to adapt how you display your events even further and in fact also provide ways to include on pages or blog posts.

The interface for Event Manager isn’t as smart as Event Expresso but it is easy to use. If you follow the follow the documentation it is pretty easy to get the event management system working for you. With social being so important to events it is a shame it doesn’t have this included.

3. Events Planner

Pricing

  • $59 Personal – 1 site
  • $99 Advanced – 1 site
  • $299 – Developer – 5 sites

This is a good plugin but has far less features and opportunities for customisation compared to the previous two plugins. At the price of $99 dollars it seems to be expensive relative to the features. Most people will be interested in the base level of features such as Mailchimp integration and hence be forced to buy the advanced version.

Again this plugin does not offer any social integration which I think is disappointing at a time when most organisations will actively use social to promote their events.

4. Modern Tribe

Modern Tribes Event Calendar plugin is well thought out, has some great basic features and also provides add-on options to expand its capabilities. This is an unusual range of add-ons and quite unique compared to the others reviewed so far. Not only do they help you integrate your events socially but they also are one of the few to have a community add-on.

EVENTS CALENDAR

  • Free Version
  • $89 Event Calendar Pro – Personal (1 site)
  • $149 Event Calendar Pro – Business (3 sites)
  • $299 Event Calendar Pro – Agency (10 sites)

With the Pro version you get to add recurring events (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly), set Additional Fields for your events (text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons or drop-down list) and event locations and organizers are stored and available via a drop-down list. You also get two additional widgets to play with that provide some customization options.

EVENT TICKETS

  • Free Version
  • $89 Event Calendar Pro – Personal (1 site)
  • $149 Event Calendar Pro – Business (3 sites)
  • $299 Event Calendar Pro – Agency (10 sites)

Event Tickets Plus allows you to add as many tickets as you wish to a given event and sell those tickets

COMMUNITY EVENTS

  • $89 Community Events – Personal (1 site)
  • $149 Community Events – Business (3 sites)
  • $299 Community Events – Agency (10 sites)

Community Events allows your users to add their events directly to your calendar, without needing access to your admin.

COMMUNITY TICKET

  • $149 Community Tickets – Personal (1 site)
  • $199 Community Tickets – Business (3 sites)
  • $299 Community Tickets – Agency (10 sites)

Community Tickets extends the functionality of our Community Events and Event Tickets Plus plugins so that your website visitors can seamlessly create and sell tickets for the events they submit to your calendar—without needing to access your WordPress admin dashboard.

FACEBOOK EVENTS

  • $49 Facebook Event – Personal (1 site)
  • $79 Facebook Event – Business (3 sites)
  • $149 Facebook Event – Agency (10 sites)

With the Facebook Events add-on, you can tap into the growing number of events Facebook users are organizing by importing public events directly into your WordPress site.

EVENTBRITE TICKETS

  • $89 EventBrite Tickets – Personal (1 site)
  • $149 EventBrite Tickets – Business (3 sites)
  • $299 EventBrite Tickets – Agency (10 sites)

With the Facebook Events add-on, you can tap into the growing number of events Facebook users are organizing by importing public events directly into your WordPress site.

FILTER BAR

  • $89 Filter Bar – Personal (1 site)
  • $149 Filter Bar – Business (3 sites)
  • $299 Filter Bar – Agency (10 sites)

Filter Bar works with both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO. It adds a configurable set of filters to your event pages so that users can search for events by Event Category, post tag, venue, organizer, day of the week, time of day, and price.

ICAL IMPORTER

  • $49 iCal Importer – Personal (1 site)
  • $79 iCal Importer – Business (3 sites)
  • $149 iCal Importer – Agency (10 sites)

The iCal Importer allows you to import events from any website that publishes an iCal (aka ICS) feed and add them to your listings.
If you’re a developer and need to use a few of their plugins you will soon be spending over $500 and potentially over $1000 if agency level licensing is needed!!!! This compares to Event Espresso where you get everything for $299. For this reason I think Event Tribe are way out of kilter and not value for money.

5. Timely

Timely is a great Event Calendar and even the free version provides an astonishing good range of features for creating and promoting events on your WordPress website. What makes it great though is the social media integration.

The documentation on Timely isn’t great it is spread across lots of articles. However the plugin itself is easy to use but if you start to look into customizing it then you will need some patience. I like the fact that similar to Event Calendar by modern tribe this is socially integrated with Facebook. One of the unique features of Timely is it’s integration with iCalendar(.ics) feeds – like Google Calendar, Apple iCal, MS Outlook, etc. – you can import/export event(s) and send events from a category and/or tag.

Summary of The Event Management Plugins

Before you do anything else do consider what features you absolutely need to have vs. nice to have. Clearly if you are an ace coder then customizing a plugin will be relatively easy. However beginners beware, good support and documentation is critical as is the ability to use widgets and have access to shortcodes.

I am sure there are many other plugins but you tend to find that you get what you pay for. Let me know your experience of these plugins and / or thoughts.
